I really enjoyed yesterdays debate that took place for the Guardian HE Live chat. It was a pleasure to be a panellist. The chat was all about academic writing and it threw up a lot of interesting threads of discussion. Several issues were debated including; whether or not academic blog writer should use a pseudonym; why we write where we do; the qualities of ‘good’ academic writing; clarity vs and creativity, and much, much more. Another interesting debate was about the provision of writing teaching in degrees and the stigma attached to seeking help for academic writing as a PhD student and beyond. It was predominately felt that this should be offered during degrees because it isn’t at present.
These were just some of the themes. If you want to see the rest of the discussion, follow the link here.
